So, I believe it is fairly evident that we are a travel family, that have full time jobs, but we also have passions. Mine is to help people understand that not everything we see is good or bad. To help people understand there are many approaches to an issue, and the cut and dry “lines” that structured corporate business structure is at a critical turning point where they should probably “not” take their employees for granted. If you look around, how many people either got degrees, or specialized training during the pandemic? Or even better yet….”almost” to the end….but they ARE close enough to simply flip you the bird and walk away.
I have been around long enough to have seen the perils that this particular chain has been through. Ups/downs Big gains…bigger losses. But, they have maintained their integrity throughout the battle of the boxes when it comes to hotel chains. While I rarely “review” hotels, particularly on this new blog-but….this time-I believe it may be warranted. First of all, I want to refer you to a follow up blog in the next day or two, regarding Priceline.com, Enterprise, and the not so kind B-udget lady at the airport.
What I will say in this particular blog however is, Hilton came through. Not once, but twice in a row. I have always been a Hampton Inn guy, since one of the formers worked for the popular hotel chain. I have never had any issues with them in the past, nor will I say I have recently-per se. I WILL state that we had previous arrangements with hotels, only to travel and show up to find out that said hotel/chain were overbooked (not the hotel chain fault at that point) and we had to find a different room elsewhere. Obviously, this is why programs like the Hilton Rewards system works, but as we are brand new to “that category” we haven’t really experienced it. Only recently have they started monetizing reviews on Air BnB, which means sadly it is only a matter of time before inflation takes that game over as well.
First hotel was the Hilton in Jackson Mississippi. This was after 8 hours of driving with all of us in the car. I found the price on the website. The second, a Double Tree near Cairo Illinois, and would you believe it…..we Stayed at two more Hilton on the return trip home. Each hotel had its “quirks” so let me explain what we as travelers find acceptable in hotels. This is by no means any “standard” other than our own, but maybe a cute outlook at how we internalize our impressions.
5 Gumballs (too gimmicky?).
We really don’t like rating people low, but we would not be doing you a service as a reader if we were anything less than transparent. We aren’t hard to impress, but some people just suck! Doesn’t mean we haven’t reserved the right to simply withdraw our insight all together. That said, we don’t really expect much when we travel. Seriously, My wife packs so much stuff when we go, if we need it-she has it. Ironically the “nothing more” has been proven on a few occasions, when she sneaks that last minute “Erick will probably need this at some point” and come out as the victor.
So yeah…..Five Gumballs is simple to achieve. Now-IN THE EVENT I am on the fence about a service, business etc. I will explain the vote one way or another. This goes for all levels of our expectations. Please note, this website is a compilation occurrance of everything on this adventure. I WILL jump around based on the pages in my journals. It is better that way. If you want them all in order-I am compiling all of the blogs at the end and will offer them as a book in the gumballhead.com webstore. I am still trying to nail down details on my hosting platform for that site.
4 Gumballs
Not a standardized rating system. If it isn’t up to basic standards like promised amenities (hotel/bed and breakfast/hostel) then we just kind of give this one to them. This would be, a fart smell lingering in the room, or cigarette smell in a non-smoking room ,…I believe that is pretty well standard now anyway or best yet pool not heated as advertised. If we aren’t blown away, but not getting a fifty dollar stay at a two hundred dollar hotel type situation, then you get a four. Don’t argue-until I am famous, I make the rules.
3 Gumballs
Alright mediocre folks, this is where you come in. Now the truth is, I can get a room for $59 a night, and get a 3 pack of crayons for the kids-and instantly get a 5 ball stay. See, if it is a 3 star or below stay online, and I get anything, ANYTHING above and beyond what the comments are, I will give them the positive review with highest rating possible on their website, and praise them on mine. There are a few already posted……expectation versus execution is simplistic intellectual design. Be real, and not let down-more about that available in some of the links in my bio.

Did you try today? Why are you here, and do you live on property. I do my best to not be rude, so instead let’s be humorous about it. I myself have hospitality experience. Thereby, identify with what it is like. One of the formers ran a small chain, and it seemed as if she lived on property. Constantly I was there repairing things for the hotel chain as I was a self-employed contractor at the time. But….seriously not serious…..did you just wake up from a train ride with Dawson? Girl, theres slobber on our doorknob and a booger on the mirror….the bed isn’t made, and it smells like fart and cigarette. And whats that floating in the pool…..well at least the sheets are clean-good out of bad, still stay, but probably get a refund.

I have been married a few times. Each one will tell you that after a period of time, my expectations of experiences dwindles, because I am comfortable with my partner. Friends of the past will attest to the “always looking for the next best thing” but one day….I woke up and realized I found it, and it’s not too late to keep it. That being said, there is NO FREAKING WAY that even I could convince THIS wife (whom I convinced to marry me in the first place) to stay here. She KNOWS I will happily sleep in a car, because I have done it while pouting in a 4 Gumball stay. Yep, nope! This is the hotel that you know is too good to be true, and judging by anything you want to judge, this is a “you can keep the $59” hotel, not even worth the experience type stuff.
Guys, thank you SOOO much for the fourth season of Gumball Head on WordPress. It has truly been an honor to meet new friends here along the way. Sorry I get wordy, but if I write it now, I can reflect during morning constitutional and determine which topic to write about next. Seriously though, I have a lot of content dropping over the next few days. This was one in my drafts-the remainders will be less wordy, but I will eventually shorten the post down to just the ratings. Share with your friends, you know how this works-DON”T GATEKEEP our rights to share information.
Stay Strong; Stay Focused: Stay Sober! Much Love.

So glad you had a good experience! I’ve never stayed in this hotel chain before! xoxo
